Once again, Spire Restaurant has been hailed as a Top Merseyside Performer in 2014’s Good Food Guide. Read the lovely things the prestigious guide has written about out restaurant…
Since opening Spire on Church Road, brothers Adam and Matt Locke have established this warmly welcoming contemporary eatery as a top Merseyside performer: a boon to the neighbourhood’s regenerated social scene (Penny Lane just a stroll away). Inside, it’s a smart mix of polished floors, abstract art and exposed brickwork, with a spiral staircase linking the two dining areas – perfect for food with a grown-up, cosmopolitan feel.
To start, a warm salad of smoked haddock with poached quails’ eggs received top marks from one reader, likewise a perfectly cooked main course of Cumbrian beef fillet with shallot puree and truffle confit. The kitchen’s dedication to sourcing also shows in generous plates of hand-dived scallops with pork belly and celeriac puree, or Goosnargh chicken breast partnered by cauliflower and black pudding. To finish, try apple cheesecake or ‘excellent’ hot chocolate fondant with marmalade ice cream. The wine list starts at £15.95.
